| Damn you routine. Damn you to hell. Rutts are a difficult thing because you're always in one, people just feel the need to jump into a new one every once in a while. Is there a way to stay on the ridges between rutts, I'm growing to believe that there is no good ridge that you can ride on. It's like racing, you've got the road, you've got the wall, and you've got the grass; and if you're not on the track your a wreck that people just slow down to watch as they go by. There is no way to get off the track and just cruise along the road. | | |
| So every once and I while I think to myself, what was that one site that I use to blow so much time on...then it comes to me xanga.com. I'm constantly amazed at the dedication some people have to this website. But at the same times it's kind of cool to remember that the lives of people who use to be so integral to yours have continued on and there has been significant growth in your absence (my absence making growth easier for some). I just got back from Vegas. For those of you who haven't been, "it's awesome", for those who have been, "you are so right it is awesome". If your going for the gambling...good luck...but you're going to lose. If your going for the atmosphere and shows you won't be disappointed (unless you go and see Blue Man and you've already seen it in Chicago...by the way same show pretty much). Kathy and I were out there for for and 1/2 days and saw Spamalot, Blue Man, Phantom, Mystere, and "O". All must sees (minus Blue Man). I won't spoil anything for you but it is amazing what you can do with crazy computers, 16 power winches on tracks, and four pieces of chandelier. Tired and will fully fill in later. By the way, theatre, small world. Anyway, good night all Matt | | |
| So Disney finally came through for me. I am now a Technical Director for Walt Disney Entertainment Show Development and Production. I have worked for Disney for just under a week now and am loving the people that I'm going to get to work with. My supervisor is on vaction right now, but I get to meet him this Wednesday. I have now idea on what projects I'm going to get to work on, but I'll keep you posted. Disney truly is the most magical place on earth for me right now. | | |
| So about a week ago now I got layed off at PRG because they are completely shutting down Scenic Technologies Orlando. I'm continuing to work for them through Dec. so atleast I have a job through Christmas, but on January 1...no job for Matt. I thought about taking this opportunity to take a good six month sabatical but decided that I would miss all the cuts and bruses associated with manual construction too much and that just wasn't an option. I have again reapplied at Disney and maybe so thing so thing will happen there this time (fingers crossed). Anyway, besides for Kathy and I giving birth to a eight pound 3 ounce baby named Mattilda nothing much is happening (I am now laughing at those of you who got excited for about two seconds...Hah Hah). Man it's cold down here we're getting near 50 degree temperatures (again Hah Hah to those of you in the north). | | |
| Another time for an update. Once again alot has happened. So dispite my promotion at Arabian Nights I left there and am now the shop manager for Orlando PRG Scenic Technologies. I write this right now with mixed emotions because though I love getting to build, weld and cut myself, I also haven't had a day off for four weeks and I've been doing 10-12 hour days. For those of you who have worked in a shop before here are some interesting little did bits about my shop. One: the table saw has a 8'x13' table surface, I can do full sheets of anything by my self and I love it. Two: I have a sweet cold cut steel saw, all I have to do it put the material in, run it up to my stop hit a button and watch it work. It automatically clamps it, cuts through it, and unclamps it. I love it too. Three: I have...four, five, six welders (four MIG, two TIG). Four: Seven powered miter saws (most in onsite storage for off site use). Five: a 55ton ironworker used to cut, punch, and notch up to 1/2 inch steel plate 12" wide. Six: a panal saw, not that exciting but I've never had one before. Seven: forklifts, nice for lifting sheets of ply and the like. Eight: we order steel by the bundle (100 stick of 20 feet long 1 1/4inch SST). I think I'm going to like it here. Mike I have some pictures for you.
Note the size of the man next to the table saw. | | |
